It will void the warranty, do it at your own risk: Make sure phone is sufficiently charged and USB Debugging is checked in Settings Developer Options. Have Kies from Samsung downloaded to your computer. Download this T989 ROOT zipped file and unzip it: Unzip and run the Odin file in the zipped package. Turn off your device.
Connect your USB cable from your phone to the computer with Odin running. Turn on your phone by holding the power and volume down button at the same time. A warning will appear, just press volume up to ignore it. The COM Port in Odin should turn yellow (make sure re-partition isn't checked, it shouldn't be by default). Select PDA and find the Openrecovery (TWRP).tar file from the T989 ROOT folder you unzipped. Press start in Odin and it should install the TWRP, you will see a green box with the word PASS in Odin.
Your phone should restart, you can unplug your phone from the computer. Power off the phone. Then to turn it back on, hold the power, volume up and volume down buttons at the same time.
When the phone vibrates, let go of power but keep holding both volume buttons. You should then find yourself in the TWRP recovery menu. From TWRP, select the Reboot button, then the System button, TWRP will inform you that you aren't rooted and ask if you want to root. Swipe the bar at the bottom to root it. Make sure you have data or wifi on upon reboot. After rebooting there should be a note in the taskbar telling you that your phone isn't quite rooted yet and to go to the Play store to get SuperSU v1.25 by Chainfire. Then, once downloaded and opened, the SuperSU might give you an option to download updates for it, do it.
SuperSU should install, the phone is rooted. I'm not responsible for any damage to your phone. This is what I did and it worked for me. Nor did I install the SU apps from either site since TWRP installs one for you. So I used some of the instructions and files from the first and some of the instructions from the second link.

It wil. It's an Android News & reviews website I started a couple months ago that am slowly starting to grow. It's called Team Android Canada & can be found at www.TeamAndroidCanada.com. I'm in the process of getting the review section up and running it just takes awhile to get in touch with the right ppl, I am working with Samsung and HTC so far though so I figure I'm off to a good start. If you check it out and have any suggestions feel free to let me know. Thanks for the interest and spread the word if you like it at all. I'm not responsible for any damage to your phone.

I have rooted several phones with this software. I hope it helps (DISCLAIMER: I am NOT responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, Thermo nuclear war, exploding devices, dead pixels or breaking your WARRANTY. Read only if you know what you are doing. It can easily make your smartphone a smart paperweight.). Ok i followed all the steps but the last one where it says is your phone rooted slide the bar i h.So just to be clear on a few things: 1) Are you saying that you already have an SU app on your phone, even though the phone isn't rooted?
2) Did you already go through TWRP to reboot? Does it give you the option to root the phone? If you have an unrooted phone with a SU app, and if TWRP is giving you the option to root, from what I understand, it doesn't hurt to have two different SU apps on your phone, you can always disable one of them once your phone is rooted. I don't know if having a SU app already will interfere with the final step where TWRP roots you and gives you a note in the status bar telling you to install SuperSU on reboot. I caution you that I've never dealt with this situation personally so I'm not completely sure how it will work out.
If you feel adventurous, you can go through with the rooting if TWRP is giving you that option and tell us what happens. Otherwise, you can try to find a way to get rid of the SU app you already have, perhaps by searching through xda forums to see if somebody else has a similar issue. Wow, thanks Humberto, very clear and working flawlessly!
Rooted my S2x in 2 minutes following your guide! The only thing though is with this instruction: 'Turn on your phone by holding the power and volume down button at the same time. A warning will appear, just press volume up to ignore it. ' Actually, you have to let go Power once the phone vibrates once, otherwise the warning screen disappear right away and you can't enter download mode. It should read: 'Turn on your phone by holding the power and volume down button at the same time.
When the phone vibrates, let go the Power button but keep volume down pressed. A warning will appear, just press volume up to ignore it.
